The faderport comes with the Artist version of Studio One which I had never used, but after playing around with it, I may upgrade to the pro version. The artist version gives you limited capabilities with VST plugins. Overall, I'd say this is a win and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for more of an analog feel while using a DAW. Faderport motorised fader; Resistance on the fader working with the faderport; Faderport - Random Fader Adjustment in Studio One; Faderport fader not working in PT11 even with 1.3.8; Faderport 2018 - Fader works one way in Studio One 4; Faderport Clasic fader stopped moving after upgrade Pro Tools10 to Pro Tools 2019. FaderPort 16’s streamlined workflow and support for the Mackie Control and HUI protocols also make it fast and easy to control Logic Pro X, Cubase, Pro Tools, and more. | So i purchased Faderport 1 a few weeks ago after a bit of hesitation.. set up was easy & it worked straight away & had no problems until today. Its almost as if there is no power going to it, the fader doesn't track the automation i have written, none of the lights are lit but all of the buttons work. Sometimes when i open up a session the fader will move into position, other times it will move only a very small amount. Whats going on here.? Any ideas.? | Make sure your power supply is fully plugged into an AC socket, and to the Fadsrport itself. That's 1st. Then make sure you have the latest (or appropriate) driver to what Faderport you have. That should do it. It's a great unit! Also, this per Skip Jones which I found to be good advice. If your Faderport is not functioning, I would suggest submitting a support ticket request. http://www.presonus.com/support S1 Pro 4.5.x, Laptop: VAIO i7, 8 core, Win 7 64x. | I've had my faderport go out several times, it was never the hardware. One time is was another usb device causing problems. So unplug everything but the faderport and check that, also try different port etc. Then another time I think it was win10 update because the problem went away with another update. | Be advised that the Faderport 1 will reduce that entire USB port it is connected to down to USB 1 speed. (they warn you of this as well) So make sure it is on its own USB port with nothing else. On a computer USB ports are often in pairs but separate. I bought a sep PCI card that has 4 USB ports on it. I am running the Faderport on its own entire PCI/USB port buss hence it never plays up with me. Having said that I have had the odd occasion where it went dead too. Usually all it takes for me is to disconnect and reconnect the USB connection and it is good to go. After the 3.5 update my Faderport was also not connected for some reason and I had to reset that by going through the reconnect procedure. Overall it should be pretty reliable though. | Not to brag, meant purely as encouragement: My FP 1 has been rock solid first on an 8.1 box, then a 10 box. With Studio One 3, SONAR Plat and Reaper. Note that I use 3rd party plugs for SONAR and Reaper to enable flexible configuration. | All of the usual suspects have been checked. I have been using it successfully on a USB hub since I got the unit (with a small midi controller keyboard). After the problem appeared in tried it on its own slot but no cigar. When I shut down SO 3, the lights on the faderport flicker very quickly & the fader jumps up & down. I'm thinking it could be a dodgy power supply. I've put a support ticket in..i'll see what happens. The Presonus Faderport is one of those little pieces of gear that could make a big difference to the way you work. Aimed at Mousephobic automation-slutz, it simply gives the user access to a high resolution touch sensitive motorized fader.
Installing the Faderport for Pro Tools was fairly easy. After plugging in USB and power, the Faderport needed a firmware update, which was a bit tedious, but once it was done it was simply a matter of pointing Pro Tools to the Faderport in the peripherals window.
Faderport contains buttons you'd somewhat expect to find, of course there's the obvious transport, but features such as Window view - Mix, Project(edit) , Fader Mode - automation settings such as Off/Touch/Write/Read, plus banking and channel controls Mute/Solo/Rec add convenience for some users.
The high resolution fader itself feels great, moves nicely, is fantastic for automation passes, and generally speeds up work flow. Comparable to the feel of a C24 fader. The Faderport is well built, rugged, and reliable, it's pretty much a chunk of metal with a pleasant design.
There's only two big let downs in the fader port. While the fader is touch sensitive, the Pan pot is not. This makes it essentially useless for automation passes, and in effect, a complete waste of space on the Faderport. The other mysterious let down is the need for external power. Without the external power, the faderport is no longer motorized, however the option to use a double headed USB port to supply extra power would've made the Faderport take up much less of a foot print inside one's studio, but now it's responsible for another set of power cables - on ones desk for that matter - and the use of another power point with an awkward line lump transformer.
If you're frustrated doing automation passes with a mouse than the Faderport would be the cheapest, fastest and most reliable way to get a fader under your fingers.
